BEJALATTY

Bejalatty is part of the Dhimbam group of villages in the Satyamangalam Tiger Reserve. The village currently comprises about 65 families from the Irula community. The residents of Bejalatty practice agriculture and animal grazing, apart from other livelihood opportunities such as wage labour, collection of Non-Timber Forest Produce such as Pheonix loureirii (seemar pul/eecham), Honey (jenu), cannarium strictum (dhupa), etc. The most commonly harvested agricultural produce from this village includes millets and beans.

Muthusamy and Vellasami are the Barefoot Ecologists from this village and have been monitoring a transect route in the forests close to their village. The following photographs have been clicked by them during the course of their monitoring through the transect routes, and their stories have been annotated by Vijeyan.
